Kenshiro Teraji rises to the No. 1 spot in ESPN’s flyweight rankings after a thrilling come-from-behind 12th-round TKO of Seigo Yuri Akui to unify the WBC and WBA titles.

Akui, who entered Thursday’s fight in Tokyo ranked No. 1, switches places with Teraji and is now No. 2.

On the undercard, Anthony Olascuaga retained his WBO flyweight title with a decision victory over Hiroto Kyoguchi. Olascuaga moves up to No. 5 while Kyoguchi retains his No. 10 position. Shokichi Iwata dropped his junior flyweight title in a decision loss to Rene Santiago, who enters the 108-pound rankings at No. 4. Iwata has dropped out of the rankings.

On Wednesday in Sydney, former welterweight champion Keith Thurman ended a three-year layoff with a jump to 154 pounds. He made easy work of Brock Jarvis with a third-round TKO win to set the stage for a summer showdown with Tim Tszyu in Australia. For now though, Thurman remains unranked.

On Saturday in Liverpool, Nick Ball retained his WBA featherweight title and No. 2 position in ESPN’s 126-pound rankings with a 10th-round TKO victory over TJ Doheny. Doheny was stopped by Naoya Inoue in September in a bid for the undisputed 122-pound championship and now exits the junior featherweight rankings.

And on Saturday in Orlando, Florida, Edgar Berlanga returned for the first time since his wide-points loss to Canelo Alvarez last September with a first-round TKO of journeyman Jonathan Gonzalez-Ortiz. Berlanga remains our fifth-ranked super middleweight.

ESPN’s divisional boxing rankings highlight the best in the sport in every weight class. Rankings will change based on recent results and performances. Fighters who have announced they are moving to a different weight class will be ranked in that new division, if warranted, only once they fight in that weight class. Fighters who currently own titles in two divisions can be ranked in both.

Fighters who haven’t competed in the past 12 months — and don’t have a fight scheduled — will be dropped from the rankings until they fight again. Any fighter who tests positive for a performance-enhancing substance will also be removed. That boxer will be eligible to reenter the rankings after his next bout.
